Institution for a Global Society Inc. (IGS) is proud to announce that CEO Masahiro Fukuhara has been selected as the first Japanese recipient of the Ethereum Foundation’s Next Billion Fellowship.
The fellowship recognizes individuals who are building Web3 applications that address real-world social challenges. Fukuhara’s selection is in recognition of his leadership in developing ONGAESHI—a decentralized education and employment platform that tackles disparities in learning and opportunity.
Through the ONGAESHI system, learners receive financial sponsorship via NFTs and repay their supporters through career success, making education accessible while incentivizing social investment.
The program exemplifies a novel Web3 use case in which blockchain enables new forms of funding and coordination for public goods.
As part of the fellowship, Fukuhara will receive support from the Ethereum Foundation to further develop ONGAESHI and raise its global profile.
He will also speak at an online event on August 31, 2023, titled “How Web3 Can Solve Social Challenges,” sharing insights into the project’s mission and design.
